Meet The Mustad LiBero Steel Horseshoe Range

The Mustad LiBero range of steel horseshoes includes three options each for both front and hind shoes. Suitable for both sport and leisure, the upgraded collection comes in a wide variety of sizes and sections and is designed to respect the natural shape of the hoof as much as possible. This provides the best support and protection for the horse while making farriers’ life easier when shoeing, so everybody wins. Crafted in collaboration with an extensive team of farriers, formed by eminent specialists from France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland, the Libero range is based on feedback received on preceding collections of Mustad horseshoes.

What Makes The LiBero Range Special?

The Mustad LiBero horseshoe range offers many unique features specifically included to improve the wellbeing of the horse. These benefits include:

Top Quality Steel

Special attention has gone into sourcing the steel for this collection. The selected steel grade gives you the right balance between ease of shaping on the anvil and durability underneath the hoof. It also has a very low content of carbon and manganese, meaning the LiBero range of horseshoes are easy to shape even after being cooled down in water.

Designed For Longevity

We have learned from experience that as much as 50% of the shoe can be worn away during one shoeing cycle. This can lead to an unstable connection between the hoof and horseshoe resulting in decreased comfort, potential for lost shoes, or even the need for emergency removal. The logical solution for this is that the top half of the nail hole should not be relied upon for shoe retention, and the LiBero horseshoe collection is designed with this in mind. This helps to ensure that your chosen horseshoe will easily withstand the shoeing cycle and provide optimal support and comfort for the horse.

Fullered Nail Holes

As noted above, the top half of the nail hole is not a reliable section for ensuring appropriate support. We have therefore redesigned the crease and the nail hole within the LiBero steel horseshoe range in order to guarantee that the nail will always fully seat at the bottom half of the nail hole when the shoe is fitted in combination with Mustad nails. This means that the V-fuller fits seamlessly with most European style standard and long neck nails.

Crafted As A Complete System

Although suited for most European style nails, the LiBero collection is designed to provide a complete shoeing system when paired with Mustad Concave or ESL nails. The horseshoes have been specifically machine-punched for these nails and will provide optimal performance when paired with them.

A-Symmetrical Design

Although some models may give a somewhat symmetrical feel, the new LiBero horseshoe range, as traditional with Mustad, is a left and right hind shoe. The bend of the inside and outside branches follow the physiological shape of most European breeds to enhance ease of shoeing and horse comfort. Additionally, the outside branch is clearly marked in the fuller and is always slightly longer with the nail holes punched a fraction coarser for optimum fitting and nailing on.

In-Built Sole Relief

If the horse being shoed has sensitive soles, the LiBero range is a great option. A moderate form of sole relief now starts 1mm after the white line, therefore ensureing that no part of the sole will be weight bearing without increasing the risk of a stone lodging between the shoe and the sole.

Flexible Application

Although we have retained the traditional character in our model range, we have decided to offer subtle section-to-size variation within the traditional categories of 20x8mm, 22x8mm, 22x10mm or 25x10mm. Available in pairs and sold with different options for convave and fullering the LiBero range is flexible in application and sure to have an option that suits your steel shoeing needs.
